Hearing loss is an irreversible medical condition, and therefore many Motorsports venues have instituted “Sound Restrictions” on vehicles for the health and safety of the drivers, the workers, spectators, etc. Some venues have sound stations (1 or more) and can be located in placed like the main straight between Start/Finish, with microphone usually on driver’s left. Data from the readings will often be provided to the event organizers and made available at registration or at the tech shed. The general rule is that any vehicle making over 103 dB be removed from the track.
Safety Stewards will display a “Sound” signboard plus the vehicle number upon the first report of a reading over the threshold dB. As a driver you should immediately return to the pits and discuss with safety officials different techniques for quieting your vehicle down to meet the track sound limits.
